Now tht’s the easy part done. You now know the basic steps you need to take to start making money online. Once you have your website up and running you need visitors to come to your site. The steps involved are similar to the ones covered in the “Free Methods of Promotion” page. In addition to these methods there are two other major ways to get traffic to your website.
Submit to search engines
You will need to submit your site to the major search engines so that they know you are up and running. The search engine bots or spiders – automatic programs that surf thte web to find new content - will eventually come to your page and find it. In most cases though it is a good idea to submit your site manually to as many of the major search engines as possible. This is a simple matter of filling out a few forms to let them know the address of your website. It can be time consuming and there are some companies out there who will submit your site for a reasonable fee.
Submit to directories
Directories are different to search engines. Many people think of them as being the same thing. The difference is that a search engine gets its information from the bots or spiders that crawl the internet every day. It then returns results based on the keywords you type into the search page. It is not arranged in any particular way and the dearch engine gives you the results that it thinks you are looking for.
A directory on the other hand is arranged into categories and you must choose where you want your website to appear. Some directories will only allow you to place your website into one category, others will allow several to be chosen. It is very important to choose your category carefully so that when people browse or search the directory, you can be found where relevant users will find your site.
Submitting to directories is by way of a form as well. Your site may not be accepted at every one that you submit to as some are quite fussy about the sites they allow listings for, so make sure that you have rleevant information and that your site is not “under construction”. Most sites are a work in progress and change continually as they are updated, but don’t put a banner anywhere proclaiming this fact.
