I have wanted to work at home for years. I've tried party plans but they didn't work for me. Thank you so much.

Step 1 : Introduction

You are about to embark on the most exciting journey of your life. You’ve booked the tickets, redirected your mail and packed your bags. You walk out the door and close it behind you ready for the excitement ahead. OOPS, suddenly you realise that you don’t have a roadmap and panic sets in. “Where do I go from here?” you wonder. “What if I get lost along the way?”

Now you might be asking yourself, “What on earth does this have to do with starting my own business on the internet?” It’s a question you should ask. You wouldn’t plan a holiday without having some idea of where you were going and what you were going to do along the way, would you.

Working from home is no different. You should first sit down and plan what it is you would like to achieve. And be specific, none of this “I wanna make a million bucks on the net.” Choose some achievable goals for yourself and write them down. Say exactly what they are and when you want to achieve them. You can make short, medium and long term goals. Here’s some ideas to get you started.

  • A short term goal – “I will make my first hundred dollars online by” and set yourself a deadline. Make it achievable and realistic, give yourself as much time as you need eg. one month from today and set the date on your calendar.
  • A medium term goal is something you would like to achieve within one to five years. For example “I will earn enough money to remodel my kitchen by”. Once again set a specific deadline for yourself.
  • Long term goals are those that you want to achieve in a longer time such as, “I will retire from my job in eight years time.”

Sit down now, grab a pen and paper or your trusty puter and open notepad. Spend some time writing down some goals for yourself. It doesn’t matter what those goals are, they will be different for everyone. What does matter is that they are specific and positive. Set deadlines and use positive language such as “I will” not “I want to”. Commit your self to these goals.

Once you have decided where you want to go, you need the roadmap to get there.
